weigh (or raise) anchor phrase of anchor 1. (of a ship) take up the anchor when ready to start sailing. Don't you feel ready to go sailing off into the sunset, looking at the sea in these photos? I could almost be convinced - for a moment. But I know I shouldn't be deceived. The sea may appear at times to be invitingly calm, especially in such gorgeous evening light as this, but I know all too well that it can change in a heartbeat.
