Today’s little local history lesson that you won’t find on any of the Village des écluses or Pointe-des-Cascades websites: From 1900 to 1959, the Soulanges canal was where most boats would pass through to navigate the Saint-Laurent river in the area South-West of Montreal. At Pointe-des-Cascades, right next to the canal, there was an industrial site where all the maintenance materials for the canal were being built and stored, but when the canal closed in 1959, that site was left abandoned.
