a no-buy halloween: dorothy & scarecrow
my school has an annual halloween party for the lower grades. there's always a theme - last year it was "fairy tale characters" and this year it's "hollywood". i think the idea was to dress up as celebrities and movie stars but i wanted to choose someone that my kids would easily recognize. i thought about audrey hepburn from breakfast at tiffany's, or maybe willy wonka. as i sifted through my closet, trying to get ideas for a costume, my eye caught this blue gingham dress. i already had a white blouse, woven purse, and blue cardigan. the shoes were my super old work shoes that i had planned on donating to the thrift store; i mixed modge podge and glitter and coated the...
