So I was somewhat amused to find that people find belting a pregnant belly kind of annoying. Most of the annoyance comes from the belief that the pregnant women are making sure you know they're with child, and not fat. Soooorrrrt of? I mean, with my gigantic boobs and growing belly I'd rather not look like an egg with 4 toothpicks jammed in it. Doesn't really have so much to do with weight - I'm just trying to create ANY shape. And most maternity tops try to do the same - creating an empire waist or coming in with elastic right under the belly.
