Japan Diary #3: Kyoto
From Magome, we took the local bus to nearby Nakatsugawa (a fun anecdote: the local bus in Magome doesn’t accept Suica, and none of us travelers on the bus had small enough change to pay for our fares, but a Japanese gentleman, who was on his own hiking trip, talked to the bus driver for us and asked him to accept larger bills. So nice!) There, we caught an express train to Nagoya, and from Nagoya the shinkansen to Kyoto. Since we hopped around so much, we thought we wouldn’t have to take the shinkansen (it made more sense for longer distances, like between Tokyo and Osaka, for example), but I’m glad we did get a taste of the famous bullet train after...
