Japan Diary #4: Nara While in Kyoto, we made time for several day trips, one of which was to Nara, the ancient capital of Japan. We caught an early train from Kyoto and arrived at about 8 AM, when the town was still relatively quiet, with only the locals and the deer stirring about. There were deer everywhere – on shop signs, street signs, in the parks along the roads, and even one at a zebra crossing waiting for the light to turn green!
