My Parenting Phase, My New Casual Jacket, And The First New & Now Post Of 2026

The kids went back to school today, I know parents everywhere are rejoicing. I was talking with a friend recently, a mom of younger kids, and discussing how things shift as your kids get older. I’m at that weird and wonderful parenting phase where school starting is no longer a massive relief. When my kids were younger I really really craved a routine. But now at 16 and 14 they’re more like mini adults who are fairly easy and fun to hang out with. I mean, I’m still very much in a parenting role (and in many cases I think it’s even more important to be present now than when they were younger), but I don’t need the break like I did when they were younger....
