Last weekend I finally got around to seeing Only Lovers Left Alive at the Princess Theatre on Whyte Avenue, a film I've been highly anticipating for quite some time. It's a film about vampires, taking place between Tangiers and Detroit. It was a hypnotic, cinematic beauty, but days later what lingers with me is not the performances or visuals, but a particular bit of script I found moving. Alive for centuries, Adam the vampire has slipped into a malaise about his eternity. He seems depressed and discontented with existing any longer.
